Oh yeah, it totally hasn't been forever since my last post...

Totally not months since my last poster post. I totally did not drag my feet starting and restarting this Ms Marvel (Kamala Khan) poster with tons of little Disney and Marvel Tsum Tsum styled things and winged sloths. Nope. Not at all.

Wytches!

As per usual, this one is a comic book themed post! It's for Wytches, art by Jock and writing by Scott Snyde, published by Image comics. It's about a family that moves into new town for a new life, and of course, the creepiest stuff happens to them. I'm sure I did a poor job of selling it to you, but it's great so read it anyways! Pledged is pledged!

The totally late....Doctor Mirage!

As you read in the title, this one is late. This poster project thing, is just something that's personal. No one is paying me for anything (no one's paying that much attention, lol). So no big deal that this one is a little late, I guess. I just know that if I don't keep to the strict schedule of Sunday night posts, I might fall off the art-making wagon again. I've done that too many times.

Anyways, last week's poster was for the comic, Doctor Mirage, published by Valiant Comics, currently written by Jen Van Meter with art by Roberto de la Torre. If you like ghosts and legends and love and adventure, read it.

Pretty Deadly

Week 2 of making poster type things. Ain't I on a roll? This one is for the comic book, Pretty Deadly, written by Kelly Sue DeConnick with art by Emma Rios and colors by Jordie Bellaire. It's an amazing team on a gorgeous and amazing book. My tribute probably does it no justice. 

First Day of Work, pages 4-7

The concluding pages from this post (which contains pages 1-3). Sighsighsigh. Lettering is hard. maybe you wouldn't think it, but it is.

So yeah. Pages 4-7. Five and 6 are supposed to be a double page spread, but that won't translate online as such.

...and that's the end of that, folks. Does anyone get that problem where when you finish something you go back and forth between being satisfied with your work and calling yourself a hack? Is it natural? I feel like it is, but then, I don't think anyone else takes it as far as I do (self-flagellation occurs in the corner).

Pages 3-4 of Fortunate Friends...

...out of 6 pages! Look at me go! (Except not really because I'm phenomenally slow considering how simple my style is? at least I think it's simple) Pages 1 and 2 are here (EDIT: pages 5-6 are here). Seriously, if you knew me at all you'd realize how amazing it is that I'm even lettering it (or maybe you don't need to know because I'm inconsistent with all things bloggy).

Oooh....Waaaw....

Original content! Man, writing and doing art is tough (especially since I only went to school for art '-_-). And then throw in lettering, and I suck, haha! Took me a while to figure out what to use/do for digital lettering (I usually just handwrite it but I think my hand writing got worse since high school).

But this is a 6 page short about making friends. I was excited about it because I got to use a character that's been floating around in my head for a while--this little girl that can tell the future with fortune cookies. I thought about what it would be like for her to make a friend and things just rolled on from there. Here are the first two pages. I call it "Fortunate Friends". The rest will come later as I letter them. Maybe I'll even eventually find time to color them (meaning it's never gonna happen, haha!).

Beware the Court of Owls

Still posting from the back log of stuff, haha. This time it's animal practice, with text from Scott Snyder's current run of Batman. I think I was reminiscing about how good the Court of Owls arc is. Check it out if you haven't. Greg Capullo does some amazing stuff with his layout design for it--really brilliant stuff that pushes the boundaries of the medium.

This is a little watercolor I did because my sister (being a fan of my work and of the CW show Arrow) wanted a drawing to put on a phone cover. I spoiled her. Anyway this is the raw image. The final didn't have all those extra testing-out-the-color-to-see-if-I-mixed-it-right marks.

Patch Designs

I wanted some patches for the Anti-Megalosaurus Force (from Godzilla franchise) and a prep-school version of the X-men school logo. Actually embroidered these. Will update later with actual pics of finished patches.

As I was going through the old blog I realized I have a bunch of stuff I could have posted sooner but didn't. So here we go! For starters, here are my notes and drawing of a panel about breaking into comics. Useful info, ideas, and motivational phrases!

Beasts of the Southern Wild post

So, few weeks back, Bitch (a Portland based magazine), gave me an illustration gig where I had to draw a short reaction comic to the film, Beasts of the Southern Wild. I know there has been some good points made that criticize it (link!), but I made this comic in the spirit of innocent fun (and maybe because I couldn't imagine myself trying to make something that was serious in its content, if that makes sense--admittedly, sometimes I can't bear to see a world that isn't sunshine and lollipops). It's a tribute to how tough the young heroine of the story had to be, and it references different scenes in the movie.

Gift Illustration Xmas 2012!

Look! It's Hawkeye from the Avengers! My illustration is based on the current Matt Fraction and David Aja run on the comics (super good...like amazingly good). Available on my new(ish?) Society6 page as prints and iphone cases and whatever!

Couldn't post this until after Christmas because its intended could have ruined the surprise.
