SOTG2, The Monument

Still from London. The Monument in London. My notes say it's for those who died in the London fire, but it's followed by a question mark so don't take that as fact just yet. Apparently you get a certificate for climbing to the top because it a crap ton of steps. I elected not to because fuck stairs and heights. And yeah, it really is a giant column.

Sketching on the Go 2, part 2

Part 1 was the last post of Buckingham Palace. Finally got to draw Westminster Abbey (didn't get to the last time around I don't think). Fyi, this is still really old. Like over a year old.

I'll throw in a quick painting of my sister and cousin being creeps. From our hotel in London.

Still old stuff being documented....

...Now with world travel! Went back to jolly old England. Here's another sketch of Buckingham Palace.

Character design stuff

Remember the twins who are fantastic liars from that currently untitled rock n' roll comedy/adventure story? Here's some more work for that.

This is Lucy Montplier. She plays bass and sings in the Justice Taints with Jackie. She's the Aquaman of spiders. Ignore the girl on the left page of the pic below, she's just drawing practice. But the other one is the final look for Lucy.

Finally got the hang of Jude, Jackie's twin. He is the designated "evil" one, with the same super lying powers as Jackie. Bonus Jackie face so I can tell how twin-looking they are.

This last guy is the drummer for Jackie's band, Rex Brixton. He has super strength, but it only comes in short bursts and usually when he doesn't need it. He's ruined tons of drum kits because of it. He's also generally the voice of reason.

Henry Cavill

Okay, so now we have something to date how far back this material goes. I went through a Henry Cavill phase (does one ever really leave a Henry Cavill phase?) when Man of Steel was released. Miffed that I got his face shaped screwed up, but glad of the way I handled his facial hair (I suck at facial hair somehow).

Sketches of...

...a horse, a guy in suit, Elvis (but without his actual face), James Dean, and some guy that isn't James Dean but I'm pretty sure came up during my Google image search of James Dean. Bonus Shiina Ringo and a figure skater or something (Shiina Ringo is amazing I wanna be her).

On the fence

I really like drawing fencers, besides dancers and boxers. The way they stretch out onto a page is wonderful. Bonus, trying to figure out the face of a character drawings (Jackie's brother Jude from a previous post).

Mystery Landscape

I can't remember where I found the source photo for this one.

Jamie Cullum

He is cute. And I like his music a lot. Also, last I heard he was with the granddaughter of Roald Dahl (she's gorgeous btw).

Sketches of...

...an unidentified boxer, a male ballet dancer (I swear, if you want to work on how you draw muscles, practice drawing ballet dancers), the late great Bruce Lee (he's another one that I love...kung-fu forever!), Cary Grant (he's so dashing), two cute little kitties, and a Burberry brand lipstick that I remember wanting.

Harry Connick Jr

He's so handsome I wanna die. For real.

Sketches of...

...two full-figure sketches of Audrey Hepburn (honest I wasn't too keen on the close up from a previous post, that's why more Audrey), some Wednesday Adams looking girl I can't identify (again, I may be posting these now, but they're from a long time ago), a woman that I'm pretty sure is Grace Kelly, a bear, and a cheetah.

Boys Boys Boys

Yeah, drawings of boys. One is doing kung fu? I don't know who they are, just that I probably came across them through googling reference photos for practice.

I hate still lives....

...drawing people and animals are more fun, but I need the practice. Especially painting objects with surfaces such as this table top jukebox thing.

Etta James

She's lovely. Check her out if you love girl singers. This was the beginning of my "draw musicians/singers I love" phase for practice sketches. Notice the past tense? Still old material.

Can you tell I had a little crush on Harry Connick Jr?

He's just so pretty. And I like his music.

Remeber I mentioned I was doing character designs?

This is the look I settled on for Jackie, the hero of that rock n' roll comedy/adventure I have yet to finish. It's full of people with dumb super powers. Seriously, even now I am still stuck on the ending. I'm better at drawing than writing. But yeah, Jackie Kincaid, the "good" twin. She plays a flying V guitar in a band called the Justice Taints. She has the least flashy power in that she's has very specific mind control powers--she tells lies that everyone believes. Oddly enough, when she tells the truth people won't always believe her for it. Just the lies.

Sketches of...

...Audrey Hepburn (I love her, but really, who doesn't?), a ballerina, a little kitty (at a convention I heard that one of my heroes, illustrator Dustin Nguyen, has a thing about drawing cats...like he's had people come up to him before and complain that the cats in the comic art he drew weren't realistic enough? Poor Dusty. Cats aside--and I have honestly never seen a bad drawing from this guy--Dustin Nguyen makes really great art), a basset hound, some vintaged-styled lady that I can't identify, and Francoise Hardy (it sounds so pretentious, but I've started getting into female French signers from the 60s).

Mod Girl and Ballerina

I went through a phase of drawing people from the 60s (look at that dress!!! aslfnweo I love it so much).

And I love drawing ballerinas. Those dancers are seriously beefy! FYI, still posting backlog material.

Sketches of...

...A guy chopping wood, George Peppard (because I'm pretty sure I had just finished watching and reading Breakfast at Tiffany's), a wolf, a couple of boxers based on a picture of a Muhammad Ali fight, Peter O'Toole. I find that my drawing of Peppard doesn't do the actual (young) Peppard any justice (I mean, do you know what he looked like when he was young? Yowza. Young Peter O'Toole deserves a "Yowza" too). Since this is all stuff I haven't looked at in months, maybe even a year, I just have my notes to go on. The dates in the corner indicate these were all drawn the same day, and so they all go on the same post.
