Larger Image of Superman Gift Illustration.

Did you look at the last post? It's a not-as-well-laid-out comic describing the process of making this thing.

This is what I've been up to while neglecting this blog...

...making presents for people!
FYI, my scanner was too small to get a better picture of the final image.

Dining to Give

Got to do some type/logo work. It was fun. I had forgotten how much I liked working with letters. The project was for this organization called Dining to Give. They hold these dinner events where something like 40% of the money taken in goes to a different charity every month. They needed me to do something to decorate some gift bags with for some sort of auction.

Click here for more about Dining to Give.

This was just too funny not to share...

So no personal drawing attached to this post, but it goes along with the spirit of what I think I try to post here when it isn't drawing practice:

I frequent this blog, Project Rooftop, where different interpretations of superheroes from a wide variety of artists are posted up. This little comic, if you will, explains exactly how bad cleavage is for crime fighting.

A little late, but since the original theme of this blog is comics...

...I'm sharing the super cool Batman and Flash pumpkins my sister and I carved. Batman was all me, and I helped do the drawing for Flash while my sister did the knife work.

Sometimes I wear these things.

So...There's this illustrator who did this series of exercise based around what she wore. They were cute outfits and in general I quite admire her work (vm-bui.com). Anyways, I wanted to join in on the fun (besides practice is good!). Things are a little janky--or maybe a lot--but they were enjoyable and I like the clothes that wore on those days.

Sketches!

These were part of my first real world post-graduation job! I was supposed to work with a writer to create a biographical one page comic on the life of Jessica Mitford for a local magazine. We're ahead of print schedule, so I have no idea really if the head editor will let the magazine use it, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Anyways, these are some studies I did of Mitford and her crew.

More Practice/geeking out.

It's the 11th Doctor! With Rory and Amy! I'm sorry to say Amy looks sort of...15. Rory looks too angry. The Doctor turned out to resemble the real thing the most. Maybe. These are fun though. I haven't done the whole fanart thing before these Doctor Who sketches, but I like the practice.

Practice/me being a geeky fan.

Do you love Doctor Who? I do too! I needed the sketching practice, so I figured why not? Catherine Tate looks better than David Tennant, I'm afraid.

Taking Care of Babies

So for the past three (maybe going on four now?) weeks, my sister, her boyfriend, and I have had to take care of my 2 month old cousin because my aunt is too sick to do so herself. It's been keeping everyone busy. This sums up the experience.

Project in Progress...

...and slow to complete. It's fun though.

These are the first storyboards for a graphic novel of sort's I'd like to make one day. It's based around a teenaged genius who decides to take up detective work, partly because she thinks she can help the cops catch the bad guys (and probably do a better job of it too), partly because she's bored and has nothing to do at the moment to engage her intellect, and definitely because no one wants to really hang out with her. The storyboards presented to you are for mapping out a moment when the heroine was a small child trying to sneak out late at night to accompany her cop father to a crime scene. She's either holding a Nancy Drew book in her arms or a book on the decomposition process of the human body. Either way, she'll probably be grounded.

Of Baptisms and Exorcisms...

I'm trying to get myself back on the wagon of posting more regularly. Anyways, this is based on a conversation that involved finding out that the head of my (now old) college's illustration program baptized people on Easter Sunday. It was a surprise because he's generally a very serious and stern (and somewhat intimidating) person.

This one's especially for you, Cassi.

Artist Statement

The one I used for my thesis paper.

Batman fights the Englishman

Somehow Cassi and I started discussing how one of our illustration teachers dressed (name changed to protect his identity, but if you go to PNCA then you know exactly who this dude is).

Who's that girl?

My friend Cassi and I were trying to describe our advanced illustration teacher to our friend Andrea. Our verbal descriptions weren't working, so I had the bright idea of drawing a picture of our teacher. If you're reading this, Kristen, you're awesome!

Failure is not an option...

This one was a long time coming...Very recently, the esteemed seniors of the Pacific Northwest College of Art had to present their finished thesis projects. This includes showing off schnazzy artwork and giving a 30 minute speech about said artwork. The head of the illustration department came into my advanced illustration class and gave us a talk about how our thesis defenses were supposed to go down. I swear every other word out of that man's mouth was "FAIL FAIL FAIL". I swear he's a good guy, though.

In-classy

The in-class assignment was to make a portrait of someone without using their face. This is a portrait of the infamous Cassi B from P to the N to the CA.

Word.

Just a typical day for the Cuvin sisters...

let us be disillusioned

The other day I was reminiscing about a family trip to the Philippines. Apparently I remember the trip differently from the rest of my family.

Dreamland

So, I keep having reoccurring nightmares where my mattress is trying to kill me. Usually it's because ghosts are trying to escape from it. This time my phone was in on it too.

sketches for project 2

I couldn't figure out how to post these on the class blog. Go me.

Meeting Time

I love this teacher, he's awesome. One of the reasons is because he occasionally reminds me of Foghorn Leghorn.

Value Village Rant

If you haven't guessed, the identity of the ranter is censored...mostly to keep them off my back because he/she is overly sensitive about the internet.
